SHIP Comfort Pairing is an interoperable KEO feature, available for the UseCase API. It allows installers to conveniently establish trust between two devices, with the simple scan of a QR-Code.

By utilizing an advanced cryptographic mechanism the security of traditional dual-trust EEBUS connections is maintained. Meanwhile the comfort of setting up EEBUS connections is greatly improved, resulting in minimal time effort for installers.

Why do I need this?

Using SHIP Comfort Pairing, manufacturers of HVAC / Wallboxes / PV-Systems / Batteries / EMS can

  • pair devices by just scanning a QR code

  • allow EEBUS connections to the Grid Connection Point (GCP) without being on premise

  • comply to §14a EnWG and §9 EEG, with 100% less installation work compared to other protocols

Example: The pairing process

Flow of information using SHIP Comfort Pairing

Let’s connect a heatpump to the grid connection point hub (GCPH) using SHIP Comfort Pairing. The heatpump has already been installed, when the grid operator arrives.

  1. The grid operator scans the QR code and sends it to the GPCH

  2. The GCPH starts an announcement with a concealed secret

  3. The heatpump uncovers the annoucement and recognizes its private secret.

  4. Only a trusted device can know this secret, so the trust is successfully established.

Benefits

  • The single manual interaction required is to scan the QR code

  • The grid operator has immediate feedback if the connection was successful.
  • The device manufacturer saves installation and support effort.
